Coal-Burning Power Plants

More than half of the electricity generated in the United States comes from coal. Our reliance on fossil fuels, and in particular coal, to generate electricity has not decreased over the past 40 years. Surprisingly, in fact, use of coal has increased even though it is one of the dirtiest sources of electricity.

Older power plants (built before 1970) with older technology run especially dirty. These older coal-fired power plants have avoided the new source provisions and haven’t installed modern pollution controls. The result leaves us with power plants that are between 30 and 50 years old and up to 10 times dirtier than new power plants.

Ternion Bio offers a much-needed approach to making coal-burning power plants less dirty by recycling at least some of their harmful emissions. Our approach benefits these power plants by helping them achieve compliance with modern pollution regulations, and it benefits the environment and all of us who live here by reducing the harmful impact of these dirty fuel sources.
