About Ternion Bio

Fact Sheet

Overview

Ternion Bio Industries, makers of innovative carbon recycling solutions, harnesses algae – in a scalable, controlled Photo BioReactor environment – to recycle greenhouse gas emissions into beneficial products.

Ternion Bio's innovative and patent-pending Photo BioReactor systems overcome the biggest challenges facing existing algae-based approaches to carbon sequestering: scalability and control. The Photo BioReactor system is designed to scale vertically as well as horizontally, allowing much higher-density algae production on a compact footprint. And because it is a closed-loop, self-contained system, it is not subject to weather changes (heavy rain, snow, heat, freezing, etc.) or contamination (from pollution, rogue algae species or wind-borne contaminants).

Markets served

Ternion Bio serves two distinct markets.

First, the company helps coal-burning power plants, waste energy plants, ethanol plants, petroleum refineries, manufacturing facilities and other emitters of greenhouse gases to more easily and cost-effectively meet tightening regulations for sequestering greenhouse gases.

Second, because the company can grow essentially any strain of algae in its Photo BioReactor systems, Ternion Bio provides high-quality raw material for makers of algae-based products such as biofuels, animal feed and nutraceuticals.

Products and services

Ternion Bio designs and makes patent-pending Photo BioReactor systems, which recycle greenhouse gas emissions (notably CO2) to feed algae in a self-contained, closed-loop process whose by-products are the algae themselves and pure oxygen.

Ternion Bio leases its Photo BioReactor systems to gas-emitting facilities, such as coal-burning plants, ethanol plants, petroleum refineries and manufacturing plants. These facilities currently face significant costs to sequester their CO2 emissions. The consequence of failing to adequately sequester their emissions includes fines and failure to be granted operating licenses.

Facilities

Ternion Bio's corporate headquarters is in San Jose, Calif., housing the majority of the company’s sales, marketing and financial employees. Research and manufacturing facilities are located in Sacramento, Calif., in an industrial area in close proximity to a number of companies requiring smaller-scale CO2 recycling who can serve as pilot facilities for Ternion Bio’s Photo BioReactor systems.

Ternion Bio's solution also requires that the company have equipment on location around the world to capture and use the CO2 its customers generate.
